Baking Soda
Baking soda tends to be a versatile eco-friendly cleaner for stainless steel countertops, cookware, and sinks. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the surface you want cleaned. Use a damp cloth to gently scrub the area. Then wipe with a separate clean cloth. For stubborn stains, form a paste with baking soda and water. Spread it on the surface and leave for up to 10 minutes. Then scrub and wipe the area by using a damp cloth.
Lemons
A big benefit of using fresh lemons to clean stainless steel is the pleasant, fresh smell. For bright, shiny surfaces, wipe stainless steel with lemon juice. For stains, use a halved lemon together with baking soda. Scrub gently until the stain disappears.
Vinegar
Mix one-part white vinegar to three-parts water in a saucepan. Bring the solution to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool. This mixture is the ideal green cleaner for stainless steel pots and pans. For severe stains from grease (such as on the bottom of a frying pan) make a paste with the vinegar solution and baking soda. Cover the grease spot with paste and leave the mixture for a few minutes. Then scrub and rinse. The pan will become sparkling clean.
